Xina Eiland is the founder of Xina PR, a recognized agency with authority in multicultural communications that leads with DEI principles for their clients. In this newsletter, Xina shares moments from her 20+ years in PR, tips to navigate the current media landscape, and thought leadership on culture from a PR perspective. Now it’s time to dive into the newsletter!

In this May newsletter, I’m excited to share updates on April’s Author's Circle, Amanda’s Book Talk event, why relationships are one of the most effective PR strategies, and for my paid subscribers I included tips on how to craft an angle so you can land back-to-back stories for your client.

As for me, I took a much needed day off earlier this month to disconnect and embrace intentional rest. I wish it was my idea, but it was my friend’s. Let’s take a moment of gratitude for our friends who look out for us, care for us, and tell us what we need to hear even when we don’t want to hear it.

I also took a quick one-day trip to NYC to connect with my business partner Nubia. We created content and prepped for the next Author’s Circle cohort. We have bigger and better plans in store so stay tuned!

Hey Nubia!

This Book Talk Challenged What I Knew About Rest

Protecting Your Peace: A Conversation with Amanda Miller Littlejohn Book Talk

Since this month began, I continue to find myself reflecting on the conversations we had at the Protecting Your Peace: A Conversation with Amanda Miller Littlejohn book talk.

Throughout the night, we discussed:

☮️How to maintain your inner peace in moments of uncertainty

☮️Navigating career transitions and adapting to economic changes

☮️Practical strategies for managing stress

Pamela Murphy’s thoughts on the Book Talk

It was incredibly important to anchor this event in the power of resting. If life is feeling uncertain, that’s not a cue to do more. How can you take action, without knowing where to go?

Instead, take a moment to rest and reflect.

That’s what the purpose of the book talk was all about. Amanda reminded us that we need to begin utilizing rest as a method to ignite a revolution within ourselves.

She offered powerful strategies to prevent burnout. One that I ponder on is alignment. It involves taking a moment to notice if what you’re doing is in alignment with who you are. Let that sit with you…

This book talk was certainly one for the books and I’ll keep you posted on the next one.

Got a book to promote? I can help you get the word out. Send me a message!

And That’s a Wrap! April’s Author’s Circle Recap

I can’t believe the Author's Circle wrapped up three weeks ago! It feels like yesterday since we sent the authors off with a farewell. Here’s a recap:

What is an Author's Circle? My business partner Nubia and I launched Author’s Circle to help promote press-worthy books that were being overlooked. We provide authors with practical PR tips to boost their book’s visibility.

Who joined us this time? We kept the space intimate with three authors. One author wrote a book about her healing from cancer through a spiritual journey, another explored healing from sexual abuse as a man, and the third shared experiences traveling around the world before turning 30.

Topics we taught:

📚Personal Brand Building

📚Media Outreach

📚Content Creation

📚Audience Engagement

We’ll be opening spots for the next Author’s Circle soon! If you want to learn more about it, send me a message here on Substack or email me at xina@xinapr.com.

PR Tip: After 30+ years in the industry, one of my biggest takeaways is this: relationships matter. Especially with media outlets you truly respect. I continue to nurture my relationship with publications like Her Agenda to inform more women about people like Ms. Mitchell.

INROADS EVENT Presented by P&G

I was recently invited by P&G to attend a gala to celebrate Black excellence! Inroads Benefit Gala: 55 Years of Dreams in Action, honored visionaries and leaders who mirror the legacy of founder Frank C. Carr's dream to achieve opportunity for all.

I was excited to see alumni, partners and supporters opening doors and creating pathways to career success for high-potential students.

INROADS is a non-profit organization that creates pathways to careers for talented high school and college students across the country. They position their graduates to advance in their careers and help employers foster high-performing and innovative workplaces.

This night felt like a reunion! Remember what I mentioned earlier in the newsletter about relationships? I ran into so many people who I knew when I first started in PR. The outgoing president Forest Harper was there and reminiscent of his time serving as president.

During my agency days, I worked with Forest on a number of projects when he was a VP at Pfizer. It felt like old friends coming together to celebrate his remarkable legacy.

Damon Jones, P&G Chief Communications Officer, was one of the keynote speakers and shared a heartfelt speech that left me motivated, inspired and ready to pour my heart into everything that I do to make an impact on our community.

It was so good to reconnect with familiar faces and meet new people! Special thanks to P&G for the invite.

I’m currently accepting clients for Summer 2025. Send me an email at xina@xinapr.com to book a consultation!
